![]() It's 3:00pm in the afternoon on Sunday and I've been sitting on my couch since 10am working steadily to finish my last few posts about my goal for this course. I'm feeling a little brain dead at this moment but I want to get this finished by the end of today as I really need to focus on report cards this coming week. Here's how I did with my goals this week:
So, here's where the hitch comes in. We receive an email post about a change to the final module in our course. WHAT? I didn't plan for this!!! I've been really well prepared, I've been setting weekly goals, working on my monitoring progress sheet and planning out my time carefully. Then, all of a sudden, two weeks before the final course is finished, now we have additional tasks to do. I'm not going to sugar coat it, I'm a bit frustrated. This course has been planned for months and now there are two additional tasks and possibly one more on the way. So, I've had to re-adjust this week's plan in order to accommodate the new tasks. Which is why I've been sitting on my couch all day working and I feel like the finish line has just been moved out of my sight. So, now my updated plan for this week includes: 7. Write a final post about my own SRL learnings on my blog and answer the questions in Module 5. ![]() It's crunch time! I have reports due, a conference coming up that takes up a whole weekend and this course that is coming to an end. My plan is to meet with those students who are close to accomplishing their goals and see how I can best help them so that they can accomplish them soon. I'll also meet with those students who aren't that close to see what's blocking them. I'm going to create a goal reflection sheet and share it with students, have them fill it out and then post it on the blog. Finally, I'm going to create a reflection sheet about my own progress and post this on the blog. I'm hoping to get all that done this week so that I can use my weekend to work on my report cards. So, here's the final list of things to do this week:
My goals this week were:
I completed all goals that I set out this week. I actually wrote two blog posts. I had a wonderful conversation with Shona and Kim this morning, and I created and filled out my progress sheet. I'm attaching my monitoring progress sheet below. I also filled out my reflection sheet and created a blog post about it.
After reading another blogger's posts where they track their learning, I've begun doing that as well. This is keeping me focused on the deadlines of the course. I create a to-do list each week and then I reflect at the week's end. My goal itself is also progressing nicely. Because I've goal set with students before, this wasn't something completely foreign to me. This time around, I've just become more explicit with teaching and modeling the monitoring piece. I have students stop often to think about how their goal is progressing, and I've had students come up with their own monitoring plans.
Finally, I also asked my students to create a very similar reflection piece on their own goal. You can find that here. My goals this week are to:
This is stressful because that means that the next few weeks are really intensive with making sure I have all my marks in place and finishing up units. I also need to ensure that I have enough time to continue to reflect on goal progress with my students.
To pile it on even more, I've signed up for a Google Summit conference all weekend on November 19-20. So, I've really got to manage my time effectively over the next 4 weeks. Just thinking about this is making my head spin!! This weekend, I'm also going to write a to-do list with deadlines and dates for all this work to ensure that I can effectively complete everything by deadlines given. Wish me luck! |
